A police officer in British Columbia has been dismissed immediately for making vulgar and sexist remarks in police group chats and on police mobile computer terminals.
During a misconduct hearing, RCMP conduct adjudicator Louise Morel determined that Coquitlam Constable Mersad Mesbah’s behavior constituted discreditable conduct, violating his oath as a law enforcement officer.
Mesbah was one of three officers at the detachment who underwent disciplinary proceedings due to their inappropriate comments.
The offensive remarks were brought to light when a colleague reported receiving sexist, racist, and harassing comments about themselves, fellow officers, and the public in 2021.
In response to the allegations, Mesbah expressed deep regret for his actions, explaining that he used the chats to vent job-related frustrations and did not intend for his remarks to be harmful or offensive.
Another officer, Ian Solven, resigned from the RCMP in December, while Constable Philip Dick is awaiting the outcome of his own code of conduct proceedings scheduled for next month.
