Ernie Clement of the Blue Jays Clinches Spot on Team USA for the World Baseball Classic!

Ernie Clement’s Remarkable Journey: From MLB Record Breaker to World Baseball Classic Representative

Ernie Clement, the tough utility infielder who made waves by setting a new MLB postseason hits record after being let go by the struggling Oakland Athletics in 2023, continues to add to his impressive list of accomplishments. USA Baseball recently revealed that Clement has been chosen to represent Team USA at the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

Scheduled from March 5 to 17, the tournament will span across Miami, Houston, San Juan, and Tokyo. Clement’s stellar performance in the previous postseason, where he outdid the former hits record with 30 hits while aiding the Toronto Blue Jays in their journey to the World Series, caught the attention of many.

Hailing from Brighton, N.Y., Clement not only excelled during the postseason but also showcased his talents in the regular season, achieving career highs in various categories. His contributions, both with the bat and his exceptional defense, earned him recognition and nominations for the American League Gold Glove award.

Despite facing injuries like a fractured finger and stitches in his left shin, Clement’s determination and skill on the field have made him a beloved figure among Toronto fans. His outstanding efforts even led to a special day being dedicated in his honor in Monroe County, New York, labeled “Ernie Clement Day.”
