Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has filed charges against a man who assaulted a woman in an apartment building near West 41st Avenue and Ash Street. The incident took place in the building’s hallway around 9 a.m.
Prompted by sounds of the altercation, concerned neighbors promptly dialed 911 and managed to detain the assailant until law enforcement officers arrived at the scene.
According to VPD Const. Darren Wong, it remains unclear what triggered the assault as the two individuals involved were apparently not acquainted. Although both were residents of the same building, there seemed to be no prior conflicts or instigating factors leading to the attack.
The victim, a woman in her 60s, sustained significant injuries requiring hospitalization for treatment. The suspect, a 34-year-old man, is now charged with assault causing bodily harm.
