Charges Filed in Terrifying SkyTrain Incident: Man Assaulted, Almost Set Ablaze

A disturbing incident unfolded on a Metro Vancouver SkyTrain when a man allegedly attempted to set another passenger’s clothes on fire by pouring flammable liquid on them. The heroic actions of fellow commuters prevented a potential tragedy.

The Metro Vancouver Transit Police revealed that the incident took place on a train traveling from Vancouver to Burnaby on December 16 around 3 p.m. The victim was reportedly asleep when the suspect, a 37-year-old man from Surrey, approached with malicious intent.

Fortunately, quick-thinking passengers intervened, removing the suspect from the train and holding him at Patterson Station until authorities arrived. Const. Amanda Steed commended their bravery in preventing harm.

The suspect now faces serious charges including assault with a weapon, mischief endangering life, and possession of incendiary materials. The gravity of the situation was emphasized by Steed, who highlighted the potentially catastrophic consequences of such actions.
