Toronto and GTHA Hit by Severe Weather: Complete Update on School Bus Cancellations and Closures

A strong winter storm has led to widespread school bus cancellations and full school closures across Toronto and the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) on Thursday. The storm has caused hazardous travel conditions and reduced visibility during the morning commute, prompting various school boards to take action.

In Toronto, both the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) have decided to close all schools due to unsafe road conditions and deteriorating weather. The Toronto Student Transportation Group (TSTG) first issued a citywide alert, canceling all school bus and student transportation services. Subsequently, the TDSB and TCDSB followed suit with complete closures, including childcare centers and before- and after-school programs.

Schools under the Halton District School Board (HDSB) and the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) are also closed for the day, with transportation canceled in Zones 1, 2, and 3, affecting the entire region.

York Region has escalated its weather response, with both the York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) closing all schools and facilities due to emergency weather conditions.

Peel Region is experiencing a full closure with the Peel District School Board (PDSB) and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB) shutting down all schools and worksites, alongside canceled bus services.

Durham Region has implemented a transportation shutdown across all zones, with school buses canceled but schools remaining open in both the Durham District School Board (DDSB) and the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB).

Hamilton is facing significant disruptions, with the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board closing all schools and facilities, leading to a complete transportation shutdown.
