Quebec housing tribunal expected to recommend a 3.1% rent increase

On Monday afternoon, Quebec’s Tribunal administratif du logement (TAL) is expected to reveal its recommended rent increase for 2026 in the province.

The TAL is expected to recommend a 3.1 per cent increase, closely matching inflation in Quebec.

This year’s recommended rent increase is being calculated using a new formula.

Last year, the TAL proposed landlords increase rents by an average of 5.9 per cent – its highest rent increase recommendation over the last three decades.

In 2024, TAL recommended an increase of four per cent. In 2023, the figure came in at 1.8 per cent.

More coming.
