British Columbia’s Energy Minister, Adrian Dix, has announced a crucial agreement between BC Hydro and the Nisga’a First Nation that is set to propel a groundbreaking project forward in northwestern B.C. The agreement, revealed in Prince George, B.C., marks a significant milestone for the ambitious Ksi Lisims LNG project on Pearse Island, which aims to become Canada’s second-largest LNG facility.
The North Coast Transmission Line will play a key role in supplying up to 600 megawatts to the LNG facility, enhancing its capacity and contributing to clean energy initiatives. This floating liquefied natural gas terminal, slated to produce 12 million tonnes per year, received environmental clearances from both provincial and federal authorities in September.
While the project still awaits final approval for investment, Minister Dix emphasizes the critical role of government-backed infrastructure projects like the North Coast Transmission Line in enabling such ventures to thrive. By creating a supportive environment for private sector investments, this agreement is poised to attract potential investors by showcasing a clear roadmap for sustainable development.
Minister Dix underscores the strategic significance of both the North Coast Transmission Line and the Ksi Lisims LNG project, recognizing their inclusion in the federal government’s roster of major national projects. Additionally, the transmission line is expected to unlock the vast resource potential of northwestern B.C.’s Golden Triangle, paving the way for economic growth and sustainable energy solutions.
