Investigators returned to Surrey’s Newton neighborhood on Tuesday following another early morning shooting related to extortion targeting a local business.
The Surrey Police Service was called to King George Boulevard near 72 Street at around 4:30 a.m. after reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found bullet holes in the building and nearby vehicles, but thankfully, no injuries were reported.
This incident is part of a concerning trend, as the SPS has received a total of 34 reports of extortion threats involving 21 victims, including seven shooting incidents, in just under three weeks.
Authorities suspect that the latest shooting is connected to the ongoing extortion cases in Surrey. The Major Crime Division, along with support from the Frontline Investigative Support Team, is currently leading the investigation.
CityNews has contacted the SPS for further details on the situation.
