A woman has been charged by the BC Prosecution Service for allegedly attacking a stranger with a knife in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside early Sunday morning. According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), a patrol officer was flagged down by a group of individuals near Hastings and Abbott streets around 3 a.m. The group claimed that their friend had been slashed on the shoulder by a stranger wielding a knife.
Following a brief chase, the officer apprehended the suspect after using a taser. The 29-year-old woman now faces charges of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
The victim, a 31-year-old man, is recovering after receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The suspect, who shares the same name as the woman in custody, is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday and January 27.
At the time of her arrest, the VPD indicates that the suspect had outstanding warrants on a national level for violating parole and on a provincial level for non-compliance with a probation order.
