A recent report from the Institut de la statistique du Québec revealed that the majority of young people aged 15 to 29 in Quebec prefer to watch television content from outside the province. Only a small percentage, eight per cent, primarily watch content produced within Quebec. The report found that 64 per cent of these young individuals choose to consume content from sources outside Quebec, whether through streaming platforms, apps, websites, or traditional television.
The trend of seeking entertainment outside Quebec also extends to music listening habits among young people. According to the report, a mere 3.9 per cent of young individuals in this age group listened primarily to music by Quebec artists in the past year, while a significant 69 per cent favored music from artists outside Quebec.
In terms of language preference, the report highlighted that only five per cent of young people primarily listened to music in French, while 57 per cent favored English-language music. Additionally, 30 per cent enjoyed a mix of both English and French music, and 8.7 per cent opted for music in another language.
