Authorities are looking into a traffic incident that occurred in Surrey on Wednesday morning, prompting a response from the province’s police watchdog.
Following the crash, the Surrey Police Service swiftly closed off the intersection of 128 Street and 88 Avenue from early hours. They disclosed that their officers were on-site investigating a collision, with the closure expected to remain in effect for several hours.
Images captured at the scene reveal the presence of investigators from the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO), adding an extra layer of scrutiny to the situation. Multiple vehicles, including a sedan, a pickup truck, and a small motorcycle, are visibly damaged and cordoned off near the crossroads.
The IIO serves as the independent oversight body for law enforcement and detention personnel in British Columbia, tasked with probing incidents involving police that result in fatalities or severe injuries, regardless of any alleged misconduct.
