Marie-Philip Poulin’s spectacular overtime goal led the Montreal Victoire to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Frost on Wednesday night. Maureen Murphy also showcased her talent with a goal, while Ann-Renée Desbiens made 20 crucial saves for Montreal.
In a tense game, Kelly Pannek managed to tie the score 1-1 for Minnesota after the Frost pulled goaltender Nicole Hensley with just over a minute left in regulation. Despite their efforts, Minnesota has now lost four of their last five games.
Poulin’s winning goal, a stunning back-hand shot, sealed the deal for Montreal in overtime with less than 2 minutes remaining. This victory echoed their previous 3-2 win against the Frost on January 4, where Poulin also came through in overtime.
Murphy opened the scoring for Montreal with her first goal of the season in the second period, courtesy of a well-executed redirect from Nicole Gosling’s shot along the left board.
This win was significant as the Frost, known for their strong offense, were unable to score through the first two periods for the first time this season. Minnesota’s record now stands at 0-4 when trailing entering the third period.
Although Montreal had a setback with a recent 2-1 loss to New York, breaking their three-game winning streak, the team is looking ahead. Natalie Mlynkova’s near miss against the post in the second period exemplified Montreal’s determination and skill.
Next, Montreal will face Ottawa at home on Saturday, while Minnesota aims to bounce back in their upcoming game.
