Darren James, a renowned professional motorcycle racer, has always viewed his ADHD as a unique asset that propelled him through his racing career. Diagnosed with the disorder at age 25, James now seeks to assist others in obtaining their diagnoses.
In a remarkable display of generosity, the James family has contributed $7.6 million to Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) to establish a groundbreaking adult ADHD clinic under the auspices of Vancouver Coastal Health. This initiative is set to revolutionize access to ADHD assessments for adults in Metro Vancouver.
Dr. Summer Telio, the clinic’s Medical Director, envisions it as the first comprehensive, team-based ADHD clinic in the province that will be covered by MSP. Geared towards individuals aged 17 to 35, the clinic aims to address the challenges faced by adults grappling with ADHD-related impairments, particularly in areas such as relationships, education, and employment.
Reflecting on his decision to support this cause, James emphasized the profound impact of understanding his own strengths and challenges as an adult with ADHD. He believes that his experience at the ADHD clinic was pivotal in this journey of self-discovery.
