Dozens Forced to Flee as Blaze Engulfs Coquitlam Apartment Complex

A fire broke out in a Coquitlam building on Thursday night, leading to the evacuation of numerous apartments. The Coquitlam Fire Rescue Service reported that although no injuries were sustained, 27 units in the building near Princess Crescent and Town Centre Boulevard were significantly damaged, causing some residents to be displaced.

In response to the emergency, the City of Coquitlam swiftly set up a reception center at the City Centre Aquatic Complex to assist affected individuals. Residents were provided with essential information at the center and online for their convenience.

City officials expressed their commitment to supporting the impacted residents, working closely with the building’s strata in the days ahead.

City Coun. Matt Djonlic, a resident of the building, expressed gratitude on behalf of the community and praised the rapid response of the firefighters in containing the blaze and safeguarding homes.

Although the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke emanating from a balcony. Images captured at the scene show firefighters using ladders to access fire-damaged apartments on multiple floors.
