Authorities responded to a shooting incident that resulted in the closure of multiple roads in Burnaby on Thursday evening. The Burnaby RCMP received reports of gunfire near Canada Way and Boundary Road, where they discovered a man who had been shot.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the case after the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene. According to investigators, the shooting appears to have been a targeted attack, and they have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
Witnesses reported a heavy police presence in the area, with sightings of police vehicles near Canada Way and Smith Avenue. Additionally, Burnaby RCMP officers were spotted responding to a vehicle fire in an alley off Royal Oak Avenue near Deer Lake Park around the same time.
Residents in the vicinity recounted hearing what they initially thought were fireworks, followed by screams for help. The incident has left some feeling uneasy about their safety in the neighborhood, prompting calls for improved security measures.
Despite the tragic outcome of the shooting, emergency services confirmed that no victims were transported to the hospital. Authorities are urging anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward and assist with the investigation led by IHIT.
