Montreal Police Probe Suspicious Fire at Popular St-Leonard Café-Bar

Montreal authorities are probing a suspected arson incident at a café-bar in the Saint-Leonard neighborhood.

The Montreal Police Service (SPVM) received a 911 call at approximately 4 a.m. reporting a fire at a commercial establishment on Lavoisier Boulevard, close to Primot Street.

Upon arriving at the location, emergency responders were already at work containing the blaze. Evidence of potentially incendiary materials was discovered at the site, leading officials to suspect the fire was intentionally set.

SPVM spokesperson, Caroline Chèvrefils, stated, “Preliminary information suggests that one or more individuals may have broken a window to ignite the fire inside the café-bar before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival.”

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the building sustained only minor damages.

The case has now been handed over to SPVM’s specialized arson investigation unit for further examination.
