Montreal’s Welcome Hall Mission is unveiling a state-of-the-art kitchen set to revolutionize their meal production capacity, aiming to provide up to 10,000 meals daily to those in need throughout the city.
After nearly eight years of planning and a total investment of about $7 million, the new kitchen is a game-changer for the organization, made possible through generous donations. With a top-tier C1 rating from Quebec’s agriculture ministry, MAPAQ, the kitchen meets the same standards as grocery store food production, ensuring quality and safety.
Welcome Hall Mission CEO Sam Watts envisions the kitchen as a hub serving not only their own shelters and free grocery stores but also extending support to other community organizations in need. The kitchen will run seven days a week, offering a wide range of meals from comfort foods to more intricate dishes, all prepared with precision and care.
The facility will provide real-world training opportunities for hospitality students, equipping them with essential skills to excel in professional kitchens. Additionally, the kitchen will source a mix of donated and purchased ingredients to meet the demands of large-scale meal preparation.
With its upgraded facilities and cutting-edge equipment, the Welcome Hall Mission’s new kitchen is poised to make a significant impact in addressing food insecurity in Montreal, reflecting a collaborative effort to provide essential meals to those who need them most.
