The US Department of Homeland Security is eyeing a purchase of a building owned by a Vancouver-based conglomerate, Jim Pattison Group, to potentially transform it into an Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing facility. The department has formally expressed its interest in acquiring and refurbishing the warehouse property by sending a letter to the Hanover County planning department in Virginia last week.
Situated in Richmond, VA, just a couple of hours’ drive from the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., the building has been under the ownership of Jim Pattison Developments since 2022, as per property records.
Plans outlined by the department involve the creation of new holding and processing spaces within the facility, alongside enhancements to security measures and equipment.
Hanover County has been given a 30-day window to respond to the department’s proposal, indicating a potential timeline for any decisions to be made.
Requests for comments from Jim Pattison Group and Jim Pattison Developments remain unanswered at this time.
