“Chaos on the Commute: Subway Shutdown Triggered by Track Trespass Trio, Police Confirm”

Toronto commuters faced another challenging morning as TTC subway service on a major section of the Bloor-Danforth line was disrupted due to trespassers on the tracks, rather than weather-related issues.

According to Toronto police, three individuals were spotted on the tracks, leading to a power cut by TTC employees. Despite police responding and trying to locate the trespassers, they had already left the scene, leaving no suspect descriptions available.

The initial service suspension notice between Broadview and Keele stations was issued at 7:03 a.m., causing significant inconvenience to riders who had to endure the frigid weather while waiting for shuttle buses. The disruption lasted over an hour before service finally resumed at 8:14 a.m.

TTC spokesperson Stuart Green explained the protocol of stopping service and cutting power when trespassers are reported on the tracks, emphasizing the need to ensure their complete removal before restoring service.

The reasons behind the trespassers’ actions remain unclear, prompting frustration among commuters who criticized the individuals for their selfish behavior and the subsequent disruption during rush hour.

Walking onto the tracks is not only deemed selfish and dangerous but also carries the risk of severe injury or death due to the high voltage of electricity present. Offenders may face fines of up to $5,000.
