Emergency crews swiftly responded to an explosion that rocked a residence in Kitsilano on Monday evening, according to the Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS).
The blast, originating from the basement of a home near the junction of MacDonald Street and West 6th Avenue, occurred just before 4 p.m.
Assistant Chief Pierre Morin disclosed that what was initially reported as a building collapse turned out to be an explosion and subsequent fire within the basement.
Following the shutdown of water and power supplies and a thorough safety assessment, firefighters managed to enter the premises and successfully put out the flames.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, although the explosion necessitated the relocation of six occupants of the building.
Despite images from the scene not revealing significant damage, a considerable firefighting force of 36 personnel responded to the incident.
An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the fire that led to the disruption.
The affected area around MacDonald Street and West 6th Avenue remains cordoned off as emergency teams continue their operations.
Assistant Chief Morin estimated that their presence at the site would persist for at least another hour beyond the 6:20 p.m. update.
