Early this morning, a severe collision occurred on Highway 410 in Brampton, resulting in four individuals being taken to the hospital, with one in critical condition. The incident prompted a police search for a person who fled the scene.
The northbound lanes of Highway 410 from Steeles Avenue East to Queen Street East were closed following the crash, which took place around 2:30 a.m. near the Clark Boulevard area on Wednesday. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported a multi-vehicle collision with unconfirmed injuries initially, advising drivers to steer clear of the area.
Peel paramedics later revealed that they evaluated five individuals involved in the collision. Among them, three sustained minor injuries, one was urgently transported to a trauma center in critical condition, and another declined medical assistance. Details regarding their ages and genders are yet to be disclosed.
According to information from a police source provided to 680 NewsRadio, the collision involved multiple vehicles, including a tractor-trailer. It was mentioned that three individuals exited one of the vehicles involved, with two of them being struck on the road — one critically injured and the other with non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the individuals ran off the highway and is currently being pursued by authorities. The reasons behind their decision to flee remain unclear.
At present, the cause of the collision has not been established. While the police have not specified a timeline for the reopening of the highway, it is anticipated that the closure will remain in effect for several more hours until the investigation concludes.
