Toronto Community Gathers in Candlelight Vigil for Victim of U.S. Border Patrol Tragedy in Minneapolis

A gathering was held outside the U.S. Consulate in Toronto to honor the memory of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse from Minneapolis who was tragically killed by a U.S. Border Patrol officer. Pretti, known for participating in protests against the immigration policies of the Trump administration, was fatally shot despite having a permit to carry a gun. While U.S. officials claim it was a defensive action due to Pretti being armed, bystander videos suggest otherwise, sparking outrage and additional demonstrations.

In Toronto, over 150 individuals attended the vigil to pay their respects, emphasizing the importance of coming together during times of trauma. Claudia Calabro, one of the organizers, highlighted the universal sentiment that no one should be fatally shot for advocating for others, as was the case with Pretti.

The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions expressed solidarity, stating that Pretti was killed while trying to help and promote peace. With more than 250,000 union nurses standing behind his actions, they offer support to his family and colleagues in this difficult time.
