Following the opening of a new branch line last November, the company running Montreal’s Réseau express métropolitain (REM) trains has acknowledged the unreliability issues and has pledged to address them promptly.
Alstom Canada has pinpointed faulty electronic components as the root cause of the recent disruptions plaguing the network. The company has assured the public that repairs are underway and are expected to be completed in the near future.
Since the launch of the 30-kilometer extension connecting Central Station in northwest Montreal to Deux-Montagnes via Laval, service disruptions, especially delays, have been a common occurrence, prompting dissatisfaction among commuters.
Quebec Transport Minister Jonatan Julien expressed his discontent with the current state of service, labeling it as unacceptable. He has engaged in talks with CDPQ Infra, the network owner, Pulsar, the operator, and Alstom, emphasizing the need for a significant improvement in service reliability to meet user expectations.
