Vancouver City Councillor Pete Fry, known for his environmental advocacy, has officially declared his candidacy for mayor. Fry believes that the residents of Vancouver are struggling with the increasing cost of living and feels that city officials are disconnected from the daily challenges faced by the community.
In the upcoming mayoral race, Fry will be up against the incumbent, Ken Sim, representing the ABC party, along with fellow Councillor Rebecca Bligh, who was previously ousted from the ABC, and Kareem Allam, a former chief of staff for Sim, among other candidates. The parties OneCity and COPE have yet to reveal their choices for mayoral contenders.
Having been elected to city council in 2018, Fry had hinted at a potential mayoral bid last year. The municipal elections are scheduled for October, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive race for the city’s top position.
