Surrey firefighters swiftly responded to a fire outbreak at Woodland Park Elementary in Guildford on Friday night. The Surrey Fire Services (SFS) reached the school around 11:30 p.m., led by Assistant Chief Mike McNamara.
According to McNamara, the fire originated in a storage room within the school premises. Upon arrival, the firefighters detected smoke, located the source in the storage room, and successfully extinguished the flames.
A team of 16 firefighters was deployed to manage the situation. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, focusing on the contents of the storage room.
Although the fire was contained to the storage area, water damage from sprinklers has affected other parts of the school. A restoration company has been enlisted to address the water damage issue.
McNamara expressed uncertainty regarding the school’s reopening on Monday, as efforts to eliminate smoke odor persist over the weekend.
Fortunately, the Surrey Police Service has confirmed that the fire is not considered suspicious.
