Tragic Blaze Claims Life in Burnaby Home Fire

Tragic House Fire Claims a Life in Burnaby Neighborhood

A devastating incident unfolded on Friday evening in Burnaby as a house fire took a fatal turn, resulting in the loss of one individual. The Burnaby Fire Department (BFD) swiftly responded to the emergency near the intersection of Smith Avenue and Gilpin Street just before 5:30 p.m.

Assistant fire chief Joe Mora recounted the challenging rescue operation, noting that upon arrival, it was evident that someone was trapped inside the burning home. Despite efforts to extract the individual, tragically, they did not survive.

Fortunately, two other occupants managed to escape the blaze unharmed. The BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) promptly arrived on the scene with four ambulances, providing necessary medical care to those affected by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains a mystery as authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The BFD reported significant damage to the house from heavy smoke and flames, emphasizing the swift action taken to contain the blaze once the victim was rescued.

The Burnaby RCMP enforced temporary road closures in the vicinity for public safety, which have since been lifted, allowing the community to begin the process of recovering from this tragic event.
