A tragic incident unfolded in Mississauga on Friday night, resulting in the death of a woman in her 50s and the arrest of a man following a violent assault.
According to Peel Regional Police, the authorities responded to a distress call at a plaza located at 1310 Dundas Street East just before 8 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman who had sustained severe traumatic injuries.
Cst. Tyler Bell stated that initial reports indicated the woman had been assaulted with a weapon, possibly a club, pole, or bat, leading to her tragic demise at a local hospital.
After a brief chase on foot, law enforcement successfully apprehended a man in his 50s in connection with the incident. While it is believed that the individuals were acquainted, further details about their relationship were not disclosed.
Bell emphasized that the assault does not appear to have been a random act and expressed uncertainty regarding the motive behind the attack on the victim.
Authorities asserted that the situation is contained to the involved parties, ruling out the involvement of additional suspects. The weapon used during the assault was recovered at the scene by the police.
