Two teenagers, aged 17, have been apprehended in connection with a double murder that occurred in a Cree community located in northern Quebec. The arrests were made by a tactical unit in Mistissini on Friday afternoon.
Facing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, the suspects are scheduled to appear in court the following day. The victims, 30-year-old Bedabin Neeposh and 29-year-old Daniel Benac, were discovered in a car with gunshot wounds in the First Nations community, approximately 600 kilometers northwest of Quebec City.
Authorities revealed that the fatal shooting was linked to organized crime and appeared to be a targeted incident. The tragic deaths of the two local men deeply impacted the Cree Nation of Mistissini, prompting a temporary lockdown of the community.
The Eeyou Eenou Police Force assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to safety as the incident seemed to be isolated. The Cree Nation Government expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy, emphasizing unity and support for Chief Michael Petawabano and the community members during this difficult time.
