Canadian Football League Shocker: Marc-Antoine Dequoy Hangs Up His Cleats in Unexpected Retirement!

Marc-Antoine Dequoy Announces Retirement from CFL

After a successful five-season stint with the Montreal Alouettes, 31-year-old Canadian safety Marc-Antoine Dequoy has decided to retire from the Canadian Football League (CFL). Dequoy, hailing from l’Île-Bizard, Quebec, will be holding a press conference in Montreal on Tuesday to discuss his decision.

Although Dequoy had a contract offer from Montreal, he opted to step away from the game, becoming a free agent on Feb. 10. The Alouettes selected Dequoy as the 14th overall pick in the 2020 CFL draft. Despite the league’s hiatus that year, Dequoy later participated in the Green Bay Packers’ rookie mini-camp before joining the Alouettes for the 2021 CFL season.

During his time with Montreal, Dequoy made significant contributions, including being named a league all-star in 2023 and 2024 and aiding the Als in securing a Grey Cup victory in 2023. Over his CFL career, he amassed impressive stats, with 162 tackles, 12 interceptions, and multiple other notable plays.

Expressing gratitude towards the Alouettes organization, Dequoy acknowledged the support of the fans and his teammates. His decision to retire came after thoughtful consideration with his loved ones, realizing that his body was no longer prepared for the demands of professional football.

In his final season in 2025, Dequoy showcased his skills once again, helping Montreal reach the Grey Cup game, although they fell short to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Reflecting on his time at the University of Montreal and with the Alouettes, Dequoy expressed his appreciation for the opportunities and experiences he had throughout his football career.

Montreal’s General Manager, Danny Maciocia, praised Dequoy’s contributions to the team and expressed confidence in his future endeavors outside of football. With a successful collegiate career and a Grey Cup championship under his belt, Dequoy leaves a lasting legacy in the CFL.
