If you were one of the many commuters affected by Monday’s GO train derailment, you may have felt frustrated by the waste of time and money. However, there is a silver lining – Metrolinx is offering refunds to impacted passengers.
Metrolinx has confirmed that they will uphold their Service Guarantee Policy for those affected by the derailment. According to the policy, if your train’s arrival is delayed by 15 minutes or more, you are entitled to a refund of the fare paid for your GO train trip.
Whether you purchased a ticket or used a PRESTO, debit, or credit card, you may be eligible for a refund. For ticket holders, the ticket must have been bought within an hour of the scheduled departure time to qualify. PRESTO users must have tapped on within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time.
To check if your delayed trip qualifies for a credit, visit the Metrolinx website and click on the “Check Trip” link. It may take up to 72 hours for the system to determine the trip’s eligibility status. Claims must be submitted online within 30 days of the delayed trip.
If you used a day or group pass, reach out to Metrolinx’s Contact Centre for assistance in processing your refund. If your trip meets the criteria, you will be refunded the fare for the delayed journey.
