A Whitby woman, 32, is facing charges after allegedly hitting a parked vehicle near a public school while impaired and fleeing the scene before being found by police at a nearby residence.
The incident took place at Fifewood Crescent and Fallingbrook Street around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30. According to investigators, a grey Kia sedan collided with a parked white Hyundai, both of which were there to pick up children.
The driver of the Hyundai attempted to confront the woman in the Kia, but she quickly drove away. Witnesses reported that the driver seemed impaired.
Following leads, officers located the Kia at a nearby home where the woman was showing obvious signs of impairment. She was arrested without resistance, and fortunately, no one was injured in the collision.
Breath tests conducted later revealed alcohol levels of 170 mg and 180 mg per 100 ml of blood, well over the legal limit of 80 mg.
The woman is facing charges including operating a vehicle while impaired, exceeding the legal alcohol limit, leaving the scene of an accident, and dangerous operation. She has been released on an undertaking.
