The Eglinton Crosstown LRT, a major transit project in Toronto, is set to open its doors to the public with a phased launch commencing this Sunday, as announced by TTC CEO Mandeep Lali during a recent board meeting.
Lali highlighted that the initial rides on the Eglinton Crosstown will be free of charge for passengers on the opening day, emphasizing a gradual rollout process to ensure a smooth transition. During the presentation to the board, Lali reassured that all critical safety measures have been addressed, signaling readiness for service initiation. The official launch follows the recent certification of “substantial completion” by independent engineers, confirming the line’s construction in adherence to design specifications.
In the final stages leading up to the opening, over 1,000 personnel from TTC and Metrolinx conducted a comprehensive test on January 22 to assess operational readiness, marking a significant milestone for the project.
