“Unveiling Shadows: The Pursuit of Justice in the Margaret McWilliam Cold Case Saga”

The Toronto Police Service’s Homicide Unit has a strong track record of solving murder cases in the city, boasting an impressive average clearance rate of nearly 80% since 1921. Despite their success, the unit still grapples with numerous cold cases, including the unsolved murder of Margaret McWilliam.

Margaret McWilliam, a 21-year-old resident of Scarborough, vanished after leaving her home near St. Clair and Warden for a run on August 27, 1987. Tragically, she was discovered dead the following day. Detective Constable Andrew Doyle revealed that her body was found by officers and a canine unit in a remote area of Warden Woods Park.

To this day, Margaret’s killer remains at large, leaving her mother, Charlotte McWilliam, desperate for closure. In her 80s now, McWilliam is unwavering in her pursuit of justice, stating, “He just can’t get away with it.”

Detective Constable Doyle emphasized that they possess the killer’s DNA profile and urged anyone with information to come forward, assuring, “I need a name. We’ll do the rest.”

The case of Margaret McWilliam will be featured in the upcoming season of “Tracking a Killer: The Cold Case Files,” with the first podcast episode currently available on the Frequency Podcast Network and Spotify.
