In a remarkable feat, Marie-Louise Roy-Bilodeau, a talented bartender from Montreal, clinched the prestigious Ultimate Bartender Championship (UBC) Americas title. Despite her relatively short four-year stint in the industry, Roy-Bilodeau’s impeccable precision, speed, and inventive mixology skills have set her apart as a rising star.
Reflecting on her unexpected victory, Roy-Bilodeau shared, “I was truly surprised. I didn’t anticipate winning at all. I just went in with an open mind and was grateful for the opportunity to participate.”
Transitioning from a career as an animal health technician to bartending during the pandemic, Roy-Bilodeau quickly honed her craft, delving into classic cocktails and mastering the art of mixology. Encouraged by her former boss, she delved into various competitions, culminating in her recent triumph at the UBC Americas.
Competing against 26 top bartenders from across the Americas in Colombia, Roy-Bilodeau showcased her prowess through a series of demanding challenges encompassing six rigorous stages. Notably, she emerged as the sole woman in the top four competitors, highlighting her exceptional talent and determination.
Despite facing intense pressure during the pouring challenges, Roy-Bilodeau remained composed and delivered standout performances, ultimately claiming the championship title. Her accolades include a championship ring, a custom varsity bomber jacket, and an exclusive invitation to the esteemed World’s 50 Best Ceremony with Monkey Shoulder next year.
As one of the few women excelling in high-speed bartending competitions, Roy-Bilodeau emphasizes the industry’s need for gender equality and representation.
