“Ongoing Signal Repairs Disrupt Traffic Near Union Station, Expect Continued Delays on GO Transit This Thursday, Warns Metrolinx”

Metrolinx Works to Repair Damaged Tracks After Train Derailment, Signal Work Continues

Metrolinx officials have made significant progress in fixing the tracks damaged during a recent train derailment, but ongoing signal work will lead to continued reduced train service on Thursday. The provincial transportation agency confirmed in a statement on Wednesday morning that GO Transit crews are still actively working near Union Station.

While most of the necessary track repairs have been completed, the remaining focus is on repairing the signal system, which suffered substantial damage during the incident. Due to the complexity of these repairs, the agency anticipates that the effects will linger into Thursday.

Despite some delays experienced during Wednesday morning’s commute due to increased passenger numbers and adjusted schedules, service remains consistent. Additional trips have been scheduled on the Lakeshore East, Lakeshore West, and Milton GO Transit lines to accommodate passengers.

There is uncertainty regarding the provision of additional service on Wednesday, and CityNews sought an on-camera interview with Metrolinx officials for further clarification, which remains pending as of Wednesday afternoon.

The derailment occurred on Monday morning when a rear passenger car of a Kitchener-bound GO Transit train derailed near Union Station. Fortunately, the incident resulted in no injuries, and the train was swiftly removed from the affected area the following day.

An investigation into the root cause of the derailment is still ongoing, with Metrolinx officials diligently working to ensure passenger safety and service reliability.
