“Bilingual Authors Ignite Lunar New Year Celebrations at EMSB Schools With Inspiring Book Tour”

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada’s oldest Chinese temple, Tam Kung Temple, the creators of Ellie Awakens the Spirits of Tam Kung Temple are embarking on a special book tour across nine English Montreal School Board (EMSB) schools in anticipation of Chinese New Year.

This beautifully illustrated bilingual children’s book delves into the history of early Chinese Canadian pioneers through the eyes of a young protagonist exploring the historic temple. It emphasizes the importance of spiritual spaces as sources of solace, community, and cultural heritage for immigrants navigating challenges and discrimination.

Co-author Lori Wong and Linda Chu from the Yen Wo Society will be engaging students in Montreal through readings and discussions centered around the stories of early Chinese immigrants and the cultural significance of Tam Kung Temple.

This initiative, supported by the Government of Canada, seeks to honor the enduring legacy of Tam Kung Temple as it commemorates its milestone anniversary from 1876 to 2026.
