In an effort to secure jobs at Fonderie Horne Rouyn-Noranda, the Quebec government is willing to provide Glencore with seven years of regulatory stability, with certain conditions attached. These conditions include the necessity of social approval from elected officials in Rouyn-Noranda.
Quebec is urging Glencore to uphold its commitment to invest in modernization and improving air quality at the facility. Premier François Legault emphasized the significance of the Horne Smelter for the region’s economy, emphasizing the need to balance job preservation with public health concerns.
Premier Legault expressed a shared objective of safeguarding jobs while prioritizing community well-being. The government is prepared to offer predictability to Glencore, provided that the company fulfills its investment promises. Municipal officials are also called upon to validate the foundry’s emission standards.
Continued dialogue with stakeholders is expected to further address concerns and reach a consensus on the future of the facility.
