Mother Reveals: Father Battled Depression Before Tragic Drowning of Laval Children

The heart-wrenching testimony of a mother reliving the tragic discovery of her two children, allegedly drowned by their father in their family home, unfolded in a Laval courtroom. Kamaljit Arora, 49, has acknowledged responsibility for the deaths of his 11-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter, yet maintains a plea of not guilty to the charges, including two counts of first-degree murder.

The prosecution asserts that the killings were premeditated, adding to the gravity of the situation. In a chilling twist, Arora is also accused of attempting to murder his eldest daughter and of assaulting his ex-wife, Rama Rani Arora, on the same fateful day.

During her testimony, Rama Rani Arora recounted the harrowing moment of discovering her younger children lifeless in their rooms, shedding light on her husband’s ongoing battle with depression and heightened anxiety preceding the tragic events. The eldest daughter, upon returning home, bravely intervened to stop the assault on her mother, ultimately saving her life.

The cause of death for the children was confirmed as drowning, with toxicology reports revealing concerning substances in Arora’s system. The legal proceedings have been further complicated by questions surrounding Arora’s mental health, although a judge has deemed him fit to stand trial after a period of hospitalization and evaluation.

The younger victims’ identities are currently protected by a publication ban, adding an additional layer of sensitivity to the ongoing case that has gripped the community with disbelief and sorrow.
