The Toronto Raptors started strong against the Minnesota Timberwolves, leading for most of the game. However, turnovers and a stellar performance by Anthony Edwards shifted the momentum in the second half, resulting in a narrow 128-126 victory for the Timberwolves on Wednesday. Despite a commendable effort from Brandon Ingram, who scored 25 points for Toronto, the team let the game slip away.
Reflecting on the loss, Ingram emphasized the need for the Raptors to focus on their fundamentals and tighten up their game strategy, especially in crucial moments. Scottie Barnes also delivered a noteworthy performance, securing a double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, tying Pascal Siakam for fifth place on the team’s all-time double-doubles list at 102.
However, Toronto faced concerning trends post-game, scoring 22 or fewer points in the fourth quarter for the fourth consecutive game and holding a disappointing 1-12 record against top 10 NBA teams. The Raptors’ defense faltered in the second half, allowing the Timberwolves to capitalize on turnovers and fast breaks, ultimately costing them the game.
Head coach Darko Rajakovic attributed the loss to the team’s inability to protect the ball effectively and execute on both ends of the court. While acknowledging the Raptors’ preference for a fast-paced game, backup center Sandro Mamukelashvili stressed the importance of being more cautious and deliberate with their passes, especially when holding a lead.
