The 15th anniversary of Fondu au Noir is approaching with an exciting addition – the launch of Expo AfroArts, a new flagship program celebrating Black History Month.
From February 4 to 8, the festival, presented by TD Bank Group, will be held both in person and online, with former Governor General Michaëlle Jean serving as the honorary president. Organized by the Fabienne Colas Foundation, the event has become a significant cultural gathering in Quebec.
Fabienne Colas, President and Founder of the Fondu au Noir Festival, expressed excitement for this bold and inclusive edition. Welcoming Michaëlle Jean as the Honorary President is a privilege, and the introduction of Expo AfroArts at Théâtre Colas is set to energize Saint-Henri and Montreal with a showcase for Afro-descendant artisans.
Expo AfroArts, running for three days, will feature exhibitions, encounters, and a pop-up market, providing a platform for Afro-Quebec and Afro-Canadian artisans to engage with the public and foster dialogue in the community.
Aside from the Expo, this year’s festival will include film screenings, panel discussions, music, dance, and literary events. Notable figures like Senator Amina Gerba, Olympic champion Bruny Surin, and festival founder Fabienne Colas will make appearances.
The festival kicks off with a screening of Frantz Fanon, followed by a roundtable discussion on the philosopher’s legacy. Various events will be held at venues across Montreal, including Cinéma du Musée, Maison de la culture Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, and Théâtre Colas.
