SAQ Launches Sale of Exclusive American Products to Aid Food Banks

The Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) announced a unique initiative that will see them making American products available for sale to consumers in Quebec. This decision is expected to generate close to $9 million in donations to the Food Banks of Quebec.

In response to a request from the Quebec government, the SAQ revealed on Thursday that it will be implementing this “exceptional measure” for specific products that could see their quality compromised by March 2027.

The SAQ has pledged to contribute to the Food Banks of Quebec an amount equivalent to the sales revenue generated during this period, potentially reaching up to $8.6 million in donations.

While this initiative represents a significant step, the ban on the sale of American products and the restriction on new orders, which was put in place on March 4, 2025, will remain in force, as emphasized by the company in a statement.

This decision by Quebec to restrict American imports was part of a broader response to the trade tensions instigated by the Trump administration, aligning with actions taken by other provinces across Canada.

Starting from February 12, eligible American products will be accessible for purchase on SAQ.COM and in SAQ Dépôt stores. Furthermore, customers can benefit from a 15% discount on all products, with additional discounts available at SAQ Dépôt stores as per usual.
