Tragic Accident Claims Life in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Lougheed Highway
A devastating incident unfolded on Thursday morning in Mission, as a 74-year-old man tragically lost his life in a multi-vehicle collision on Lougheed Highway.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and the Cedar Valley Connection after reports of the collision surfaced around 11:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered a scene of chaos with six vehicles involved, including a BC Transit bus.
Through witness accounts and dashcam footage analysis, the RCMP pieced together that a red GMC Sierra pickup truck veered across multiple lanes while heading eastbound on the highway. The truck collided with several stationary vehicles leading up to the intersection, ultimately crashing into a utility pole on the opposite side.
The driver of the pickup truck sadly succumbed to his injuries soon after the collision. Another individual was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A thorough investigation involving Mission RCMP, the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, and the BC Coroner Service is underway to determine the cause of the tragic incident. Authorities are exploring the possibility of a medical condition contributing to the driver’s erratic behavior.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or possesses relevant dashcam footage is urged to reach out to Mission RCMP to assist in the investigation.
