Seven candidates are gearing up for the upcoming Chicoutimi by-election scheduled for Feb. 23, as announced by Élections Québec.
Among the contenders is Francis Tremblay, a dedicated employee of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean CIUSSS, vying to maintain the Coalition Avenir du Québec (CAQ)’s influence in the region.
Going head-to-head with Tremblay is Marie-Karlynn Laflamme, the interim vice-president of administrative affairs and resources at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, representing the Parti Québécois.
Meanwhile, Catherine Morrissette, the former mayor of Saint-David-de-Falardeau, will be standing for the Conservative Party of Quebec, while the Quebec Liberals have put forward Tricia Murray, a seasoned political attaché.
Jeanne Palardy, with a background in the community sector, will be the candidate for Québec Solidaire, adding a dynamic perspective to the race.
In addition, Olivier Dion is the candidate for Climat Québec, and François Sabourin is set to represent the Parti populaire du Québec, rounding out the diverse pool of candidates.
The by-election aims to fill the shoes of the former minister Andrée Laforest, who vacated her seat in the National Assembly to pursue an unsuccessful mayoral bid in Saguenay.
The nomination window closed on Saturday at 2 p.m., setting the stage for an exciting electoral contest in Chicoutimi.
