The entertainment world mourns the loss of Catherine O’Hara, known for her iconic roles in beloved movies and TV shows. The actor passed away at the age of 71 due to a pulmonary embolism, with cancer identified as the underlying cause.
According to a Los Angeles County death certificate issued recently, O’Hara’s death on Jan. 30 was attributed to a pulmonary embolism, a condition where a blood clot obstructs an artery in the lungs. The certificate revealed that she had been battling rectal cancer as the long-term cause of her passing.
The certificate also mentioned that O’Hara was under the care of an oncologist since March of the previous year, with her last visit taking place on Jan. 27 before she passed away at a hospital in Santa Monica, California.
Catherine O’Hara, a Canadian talent adored for her roles in “Home Alone” and “Schitt’s Creek,” received widespread acclaim for her performances. Her portrayal of Macaulay Culkin’s mother in the classic “Home Alone” movies and her Emmy-winning role as Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek” endeared her to fans worldwide.
Following her unexpected death, tributes poured in from colleagues and friends, including Culkin, Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy, and Pedro Pascal, reflecting on her immense talent and warm personality.
The death certificate also revealed that O’Hara was cremated, with her profession listed as an “actress” and her business as movies, reflecting her illustrious career spanning five decades.
