The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) recently made significant progress in combating human trafficking involving minors by arresting and charging six individuals. The operation, known as “Project Firebird,” was initiated by DRPS investigators to address the alarming issue of sexual exploitation of minors in the Durham Region.
According to authorities, several individuals were found to have arranged meetings for sexual services with minors, despite being fully aware of the victims’ ages. As a result of the investigation, six men were apprehended, and a total of 19 charges were filed against them.
The arrested individuals were charged with offenses including luring a minor for sexual services, engaging in sexual activities with a minor, and soliciting sexual contact with a minor.
Following the arrests, all six men were released under certain conditions pending further legal proceedings.
