“Thaw Alert: Temperatures Rise, Welcoming Seasonal Norms This Week”

After a prolonged period of freezing temperatures in January and early February, the weather is finally starting to warm up across the region this week.

As the workweek begins, a cold alert remains in place on Monday, with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will peak at –7°C during the day, but are predicted to gradually rise in the afternoon.

Cloud cover will increase on Monday evening, bringing light snow and scattered flurries overnight, with a low of –8°C.

Tuesday’s morning commute may be affected by 1 to 3 centimetres of snow. The mercury is forecasted to hit 1°C, making it the first day above freezing in weeks, before dropping to –3°C at night.

Wednesday will continue the trend of milder temperatures, with intervals of sunshine and a possibility of flurries. The high is anticipated to be 1°C during the day, with a nighttime low of –7°C.

With temperatures slightly above freezing on Tuesday and Wednesday, some snow melting is expected.

CityNews meteorologist Denise Andreacchi reassures that once the current cold alert expires, there will be no extreme cold in the foreseeable future.
