“Vancouver Fuel Shock: Prices Soar Past National Average, Reports Gas Buddy”

Heading to the gas station soon? Get ready to dig a little deeper into your wallet.

Gas prices in Vancouver have spiked by 6.5 cents per litre over the past week, now standing at 163.8 c/L as of Sunday, based on data from GasBuddy.

This surge in prices surpasses the national average increase of only 1.5 c/L, which now sits at 129.03 c/L.

Across British Columbia, the average gas price climbed by 4.1 c/L, hitting 147.8 c/L — making it the highest in the entire country.

Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, noted, “British Columbia experienced the biggest spike in gas prices last week, outpacing the rest of the country. While other provinces saw more modest upticks, the West Coast is feeling the pinch as seasonal factors come into play, a trend that may soon affect other regions.”

De Haan added, “Despite a slight dip in oil prices recently due to reduced geopolitical tensions, the influence of seasonal changes is anticipated to drive prices up in the coming weeks, especially during the spring months.”

Alberta was the lone province where prices remained steady, benefitting from improved supply conditions.

Even with the increase, Vancouver’s gas prices are still 24.5 cents lower per litre compared to the same time last year, according to GasBuddy.
