Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada recently encountered car trouble when her vehicle hit a pothole on Notre-Dame Street last Monday evening. Despite the inconvenience of having blown tires, Martinez Ferrada has made it clear that she will not be submitting a claim to the city for reimbursement.
During a statement to the press, the mayor emphasized her stance, expressing, “No, I will not seek compensation from the city. My salary is already funded by the city, so I will not be asking for the city to cover the cost of my tires.”
The incident on Notre-Dame Street highlights the ongoing issue of potholes in Montreal, which has been a significant concern for many drivers, especially following a thaw in January that exacerbated the problem. In response to these challenges, the Martinez Ferrada administration recently announced a substantial investment of $471,000 to address the pothole-ridden streets.
To tackle the issue, the city has allocated contracts totaling ten to three different companies for repairs over the course of eight days. Mayor Martinez Ferrada acknowledged the frustration felt by residents over unexpected expenses related to pothole damages and assured that the current initiative is a temporary solution until more permanent measures can be implemented.
As she emphasized the upcoming spring season and the inevitable resurgence of potholes, the mayor urged residents to prepare for the impact and reassured the public of the city’s commitment to addressing the issue promptly and effectively.
