Chaos on Papineau: Water Main Break Paralyzes Montreal Commute

A significant water main break has led to the full closure of a section of Papineau Avenue during the busy Thursday morning commute, causing traffic disruptions in downtown Montreal.

According to the City of Montreal, Papineau Avenue is shut down in both directions between René-Lévesque Boulevard and Sainte-Catherine Street as repair crews work to address the issue.

Officials have confirmed that the water has been controlled and is now being rerouted to a catch basin.

City employees, alongside Montreal police, are present at the site, managing traffic flow and establishing alternate routes. De Lorimier Avenue is also shut down for northbound traffic in the affected area.

Authorities have indicated that the road closure will persist for an unspecified duration until the repair work is finished.

Motorists are urged to steer clear of the affected area to minimize disruptions and delays.
