In the early hours of Thursday morning, a significant fire broke out in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie neighborhood of Montreal, leading to the evacuation of several families from their homes.
The Montreal Firefighters (SIM) were alerted to the blaze at a vacant two-story building on De Châteaubriand Avenue close to De Bellechasse Street around 2:17 a.m. The fire, which originated in a structure with two housing units, quickly spread throughout the building.
As a precautionary measure, residents from four neighboring apartments in two adjacent buildings were evacuated. The Red Cross is currently providing assistance to four families affected by the fire.
Over 120 firefighters and approximately 40 emergency vehicles worked tirelessly at the scene well into the morning to contain the flames. By 8:30 a.m., fire officials noted that the intensity of the blaze had decreased, although operations were still in progress.
Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries as a result of the fire. The cause of the incident remains unknown, with investigators awaiting clearance to enter the building and commence their examination.
